VGA connectors are a very popular use of the D-Sub in a particularly recognizable 15-pin shell and three-row contact arrangement of plug and receptacle.
They’re a more accurate way to send signals than the analog D-sub connector. The VGA interface terminal (other names include RGB terminal, D-sub 15, or mini D15) is a DE-15 with 3 rows and 15 pins. A D-sub or “DB-15” connector is a type of analog connection used for video and audio devices.
The basic or standard VGA connector type will usually be referred to as some variant of the following: DE-15, HD15, VGA plug, SVGA plug, D-Sub 15 or D-Subminiature, or the more generic RGB connector. In addition to the standard D-sub connector type at one end of a VGA cable, products with various other types of adaptor or connector type at the opposite end are widely available.
